Registered: Public Benevolent Institution (charity) with the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission. Endorsed with Income Tax Exemption, GST Concession, FBT Exemption and Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status by the Australian Taxation Office and as an Exempt Institution by the Queensland government.  

Constitutional Objectives:

  • Provide a range of quality services for disadvantaged people in Australia aimed at improving self-esteem, self-awareness, community integration and self-sustainability in life
  • Establish a variety of small businesses and other employment options that will enable employees and disadvantaged people to reach their maximum skill level in an open workplace environment
  • Plan, co-ordinate and execute various social justice programs targeted at disadvantaged people and their ability to assimilate and achieve healthy participation in society

Business activity: No fewer than 288 separately funded activities that address our constitutional objectives have been delivered to the peoples of Australia.  Over 226 of the total number of projects have been employment, training and social justice related.

Employment: We have employed approximately 1660 staff with approximately 860 identifying as Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander  

Audience:  Approximately 38,100 children, young and older people have been involved in Choice programs, projects, activities, workshops and initiatives since inception in 1997

Significant project achievements: Successfully delivered the 2 largest Queensland government funded employment projects under the Breaking the Unemployment Cycle and Skilling Queenslanders for Work via the Choice Aussie Spirit project/Life After Larry project (520 displaced and unemployed people employed to clean up after ex-tropical cyclone Larry 2006) and the Y project (266 displaced and unemployed people employed to clean up after ex tropical cyclone Yasi 2011).

Choice successfully delivered the Green Choice Project funded from the 2nd Round of the Australian Jobs Fund (130 employees / volunteers to assist the Cairns Regional Council complete large scale marquee environmental projects)
